December 31, 2011

I have made 7 samples for Brenda. Hopefully she'll pick one or be able to say what she likes and doesn't like and I'll be able to come up with just what she wants. It was fun.

Now I'm working on cards for two different contests on line. One is for Lawn Fawn stamps and the other is using Penny Black stamps and Flower Soft. I've finished the one I want for Penny Black but, it's so overcast, I don't think I can get a good picture to submit right now.
I've made one card for Lawn Fawn using Critters of the Sea, but I think it might be too "crowded". I've put it in the livingroom and I'll keep looking and see.

December 30, 2011

Brenda picked me up and we met Kay and Penny at Eric's for breakfast. We had a really good meal (I had enough for supper also) and great company. We actually made a date for next month.

On the way home, Brenda asked me about making 40 thank you notes for her mom's anniversary. I told her to call me when she got home from camp and I'd have some samples for her. Katie is going to print out a photo to be included.

December 28, 2011

I did something I've never done before. I wrote to a celebrity on facebook. I'd been watching Jane Fonda say that she would take her biggest mistake to her grave with her and it saddened me. I really want her to let it go and forgive herself.

Today I'm going to the dump and then to the dentist. Then I'm putting away my Christmas things. This is the longest I've had them up after Christmas. It was just nice to have that cozy, warm lighting.

It poured all night and the wind blew a gale. Now we are back with NO snow, which is more than OK with me.

I did get my Christmas things taken care of today. That seems nice. I am leaving my candle lights in the window though and that way I can enjoy the lights.

My order of stamps from Hambo came today and I love them. I really like humorous ones and these certainly fill the bill. I spent the evening making cards with these stamps. FUN!

December 26, 2011

This morning I made New Year's card-11 of them. I made another Valentine's card and then I started making some special cards for friends to give out on certain occasions. I also made 3 boxes to put them into. I had a lot of fun and will finish them tomorrow (Tuesday). We meet for our get together on Friday. We are meeting here and going to the Post Office Cafe in Mount Vernon for breakfast. It's a lot of fun just getting together with friends and family at Christmas. I love that and can't think of anything better.

December 25, 2011

Christmas morning, and I'm up at 3---as usual. I still get excited on Christmas. I have nothing to do for the brunch until 4:30 so I make a white fence and three lamp posts for my paper 3-D village. That added a lot, I think.

Katrina called and she had already spoken with Kelsey and was going to talk with Kasey next.

At 4:30 I started the kielbasa and then cooked up the onions and green peppers for the potatoes. Kasey called and wanted to use my oven for her over-night French toast so I made my quiche early.

Kasey and Matt came and Kasey got her dish into the oven. Kelsey and Andrew came and Kasey and Kelsey worked on the computer. Lisa and Russell came around 10:00. Still no Kay, so I called--the line was busy. I had us begin because everything was ready. Kay arrived about 10:20.

After we ate, Kelsey got us playing charades. No one was too enthusiastic, except Kelsey, to begin with, but that soon changed. We all added things and divided up into teams. Lisa says she has a whole year to think of something to get back at me for my "pissing on a tree" saying. Don't know what the problem was---she did a great job! Only wish I'd taken a picture!

December 24, 2011

I made butter-crunch muffins and blueberry muffins for Christmas brunch. I cooked the bacon and the potatoes also. This will make it a lot less work when I have company. I have the Christmas lights on and it gives a nice, festive atmosphere.

December 20, 2011

Tuesday, Kelsey, Andrew, and I met at Lisa and Russell's to wrap our "adopted" family's gifts for Christmas. It had pizza and clam dip. It was fun, but I did miss having Kasey and Matt there too. They had other obligations this year, so they sent over their wrapped gifts.
Once again, Russell turned my car around for me. Don't think he trusts my driving. Maybe it has something to do with, when the kids were young, I told him not to let me drive at night with the kids in the car because I had a hard time seeing! That was at night, in the rain, with a lot of city lights. I admit, that's a problem for me, but Russell's house is so far out in the country that there are no lights! Oh well, I get waited on and that's a plus. Now if I could just get him NOT to change my radio station!!! LOL

It's 5 in the morning and here I am on the computer, compiling a list of scrapbooking stores in Maine. A goal of mine for 2012 is to go in a different direction each time and cover all the scrapbooking stores in Maine. Maybe I'll have a blog and list and rate them for others. Is this obsessive or what?? I'm not an Aries for nothing!

My parents visited every State Park in Maine. ..... my idea of fun is a little different!

December 16, 2011

The art teacher at Kelsey's school wants two of my snowmen candy bars and Kelsey called and added another one also. So this morning, after sleeping until 7, started making more candy bar snowmen. I made 5 more, just in case. I need to buy some more bells for the hats, but other than that I'm done.
This evening I'll be going to a special meeting with a friend. This is "just for me" and I'm looking forward to it.
We still have no snow and I'm surprised that I'm not really missing it. The older I get the less I like it. I love looking out at it, but not snow removal or traveling in it.

December 15, 2011

Today was so wonderful. I spent part of the morning with my younger granddaughter, helping her with the making of her tree skirt. Then I spent the afternoon with my older granddaughter and her second graders, making mystery Christmas cards. I was exhausted, but in a good way. I ended up going to bed at 6:15 and sleeping for 12 hours. Guess I'm too old to teach any more. It's a good thing I'm retired!

Two Tales of Christmas

One of the BEST memories I have of Christmas was just a few years ago. My mother was living with me at the time because she had Alzheimer's and didn't remember much except her way past. It was close to Christmas and luckily my two granddaughters and a friend were also present when I heard a knock at the door.
Our minister had come by with a group of carolers. They were dressed so colorfully and their voices were great. When they started to sing I heard my mother singing with them. She was excited and knew the words. It made my heart swell.
Afterward they all came in for Christmas cookies (I love to cook special things and the holidays always give me that excuse).

Another Christmas to come:

December 5, 2011

Can't wait for our Traditional Christmas Brunch! This is a fun time for me, planning the invitations, the menu and the little "extras" I like to surprise my family and friends with. I will send out the invitations today and I have the menu already planned. I've actually had it planned for months. I'm busy decorating the house to welcome guests. That's my favorite thing at this time of year.

Last year we started a new family tradition and that is getting a family to "adopt" for Christmas. This year I had a list of toys to get. I got the last one yesterday. Later this month we get together and eat and wrap the gifts. Everyone feels so good about doing this that it's loads of fun.

December 4, 2011

I woke up this morning feeling like I know what I'll do next year for the craft fairs. I'll schedule all my fairs early in the season. I think the later it comes the more chance people are just looking for gifts and nothing "extra".

It's another beautiful, sunny day and I'm on my way to pick up the last toy for the children my family has "adopted" for this Christmas. We started this tradition last year and we all loved doing it.

Manifesto

This is the year of many changes! After taking care of my mother for 7 years, this is the first Christmas without her. Loads of things remind me of her and I have to decide how best to go on without her constant presents.
I kept a Christmas Journal last year and I loved doing that. I'm so grateful I have it since it did turn out to be my last Christmas with my mother. Now I'm looking forward to finding the things I'm grateful for this Christmas and enjoying it for years to come.

December 3, 2011

I was up at 4:30 a.m. as I'm selling my greeting cards at a craft fair in Winthrop today. It took about 10 minutes to pack the car. I'm sure it will take longer on the other end. While packing the car I couldn't help but notice how beautiful it is. The sky is so clear, there are stars visible everywhere.

Just got back from the craft fair----very disappointing....I sold only 1 card. My last fair I sold 50. It made for a very long day. I have one more fair this year----next Saturday. Hope that goes better.

December 2, 2011

I had to run some errands into Waterville, so I treated myself to some Chinese food for a late lunch. I can't remember when the last time I had Chinese and I've NEVER gotten it just for me. That felt really nice and surprised a friend of mine.

December 1, 2011

I woke to no snow and about 50 geese across the street in the park. What a sight. Just yesterday, my granddaughter, grandson, and I watched as an eagle flew after a seagull. I am so lucky to live in this spot where so much "nature" happens around me.
